Submitting a CV and covering letter
We operate both a graduate programme and an industrial placement scheme.

- Our industrial placement scheme is open to undergraduates in current education seeking a one-year internship.
The application process for both initiatives is demanding and designed to identify ideal candidates: people we consider to possess the personality, skills and academic attainment to succeed as a Catalyst consultant.
The first step towards applying is to submit your CV and a covering letter. When you compose your CV and covering letter, please pay particular attention to who we are. We are fast-growing and our ambition is to be the leading independent consulting firm specialising exclusively in financial services. We are more agile and faster-paced than many consulting firms, particularly larger and more corporate competitors.
Being independent allows us to be in charge of our own destiny. We are also special: we combine advisory and consulting delivery capabilities with learning and development expertise, a combination unique among consulting firms. We work exclusively in the financial services industry. Think what these points mean, both in terms of our business and what we deliver for our clients.
We assess all applications and will respond to confirm whether or not you have been successful.
Successful candidates will then be invited to hold an initial telephone interview with a member of our HR team.
Telephone interview and feedback
A telephone interview is an important step on your journey towards either our graduate programme or our industrial placement scheme. In the past, we have found people place less significance on a telephone interview as opposed to a face-to-face meeting, which is a mistake. Only candidates who excel at the telephone interview will be invited to our assessment day.
During your telephone interview, we will explore your CV and the points raised in your covering letter. You should be completely comfortable discussing all aspects of both. Throughout the call we will be listening hard, assessing your confidence and ability to communicate with clarity.
We do not expect you to be an expert in our industry but we do expect you to have a good understanding of who Catalyst is and what we do, coupled with a genuine desire to specialise in financial services.
We will also expect you to be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a consultant. Before the call, you should consider what makes a great consultant, what might make the role a challenge and why you believe it’s one in which you could excel.
Attending an assessment centre
Everyone who conducts a successful telephone interview is invited to an assessment day at our head office in central London.
The day is intensive, and designed to separate the great from the good; the potential star consultants from those lacking lustre.
You will be assessed both as an individual and as a team player. Our aim is to test your understanding of Catalyst and of the role of a consultant, as well as your soft skills such as communication and empathy.
All graduates and undergraduates invited to an assessment day sit two separate interviews. These are constructed to judge both your technical and your behavioural competences.
You will be expected to work collaboratively as part of a group to find solutions before presenting your findings both independently and as part of your team. This allows us to assess your presentation skills, your aptitude for leadership and your ability to listen and learn from others.
The outcome from your assessment day is decisive. Catalyst graduate opportunities and industrial placements are offered to those who excel on the day.
When to apply
We have two intake periods for applications
- 17th September – 31st December 2018 + assessment day in January 2019
- 10th January – 29th March 2019 + assessment day in March 2019
